Demography
     
  Santa Catalina is a 5th class municipality in the province of Ilocos Sur, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 12,537 people in 2,404 households. From written accounts dating to the Spanish era, the municipality was and still is predominantly Roman Catholic. Out of the 12,537 population, there are 12,296 or 98.08 percent Roman Catholics. The Iglesia Ni Kristo ranked second in the hierarchy numbering to 116 persons.  
     
 

Santa Catalina is geographically and politically subdivided into 9 barangays

  • Cabaroan
  • Cabittaogan
  • Cabuloan
  • Pangada
  • Paratong
  • Poblacion
  • Sinabaan
  • Subec
  • Tamorong

It has 3 sitios, namely:

  • Calawaan ( Tamorong )
  • Mindanao, formerly Sabangan ( Paratong )
  • Punta ( Cabittaogan )
